ANCIENT

Bio:
Ancient Formed in Bergen, Norway, in 1992, Ancient emerged from the formative era of Norwegian black metal as the solo creation of guitarist and composer Zel, formerly known as Aphazel. Joined early on by vocalist/drummer Grimm, the band established its name with the acclaimed debut Svartalvheim (1994) and Trolltaar EP before expanding its sound on releases such as The Cainian Chronicle, Mad Grandiose Bloodfiends and The Halls of Eternity.
Over three decades, Ancient have combined traditional black metal aggression with melodic, atmospheric and occasionally gothic elements while maintaining a distinctly dark identity. Their international history has taken the band through the United States, Italy and Greece before Zel returned to Norway.
Ancient resurfaced strongly with 2016’s Back to the Land of the Dead and remain active today. Recent performances have also reunited the band with former vocalist Lord Kaiaphas, including shows celebrating The Cainian Chronicle, bringing one of Norwegian black metal’s enduring names and defining albums back to stages worldwide.
