NEXION
Bio:
Formed in Reykjavík, Iceland, in 2016, Nexion channel blackened death metal through a uniquely Icelandic vision of mythology, spirituality and existential darkness. Founded by guitarists Jóhannes Smári Smárason and Óskar Rúnarsson together with vocalist Jósúa Hróðgeir Rood, the band combines violent extreme metal with ritualistic atmosphere, haunting melody and philosophical lyrical themes.
Following their self-titled 2017 EP, Nexion made their full-length debut with Seven Oracles in 2020, an ambitious exploration of human existence, meaning and pessimistic philosophy. Their second album, Sundrung, arrived in September 2025, expanding the band’s musical and conceptual scope.
Taking its title from an Old Icelandic term for discord and the sundering of the social and cosmic fabric, Sundrung draws upon Nordic mythology, animism and ancient mysticism while confronting environmental destruction, technological dehumanisation and ideological extremism. With drummer Kristján Guðmundsson strengthening the line-up, Nexion deliver uncompromising, ritualistic blackened death metal rooted in ancient ideas yet firmly focused on the modern world.
