MARIONETTE

Bio:
MarionetteMARIONETTE has injected new light and energy into the Swedish metal genre since bursting onto the scene with its debut album Spite (2008). Building on the multiple successes brought on by high profile European tours in support of Enemies (2009), MARIONETTE recently self-released its magnum opus, Nerve worldwide. Immediately thereafter the band toured with fellow Swedes Dead By April on “The SlaughTour 2011” enabling audiences across Europe and the UK to experience MARIONETTE’s most challenging, dynamic, and aggressive material to date first hand.
Founded in 2005 by high school friends Mikael Medin (bass), Aron Parmerud (guitarist/backing vocals) and Linus Johansson (keys/Synth), MARIONETTE quickly gained substantial attention as newcomers in the Swedish metal scene by winning or placing high in a series of national and international music contests. Concurrently, the band broke the Gothenburg sound mold - taking inspiration from unexpected places - while adapting new visual approaches, often putting the band at odds with self-absorbed elitists and an older, more conservative generation of listeners. In early 2008 MARIONETTE recorded Spite, which was mixed and mastered by Christian Silver (Sonic Syndicate) and released in spring of the same year worldwide via Listenable Records. MARIONETTE forged a dedicated following on the back of tours with Die Apokalyptischen Reiter in Europe; Scandinavia with Deathstars and Sonic Syndicate; and the UK both as a headliner and as direct support for the Deathstars. Immediately after the rigorous touring schedule for Spite concluded MARIONETTE began writing material for its sophomore release Enemies.
In keeping with the approach established for Spite, MARIONETTE assembled a production team for Enemies which included Pontus Hjelm (Dead By April) and two-time Swedish Grammy award winning producer Åke Parmerud. Fredrik Nordström (In Flames, At The Gates, Bring Me The Horizon) and Peter In De Betou (Dimmu Borgir, Meshuggah) handled mixing and mastering duties respectively. Enemies was born to critical acclaim upon its European release in late 2009 and early 2010 in North America and Japan with special accolade given to the band’s aggressive sound, “stylistic depth”, “technical cohesion”, and an intrinsic ability to walk the line between relentless heaviness and commercial appeal (Kerrang! Magazine). Heavy touring followed including Scandinavian dates with Five Finger Death Punch in November 2009 and European dates with Blessthefall. Enemies received a nomination for “Best Death Metal Album” of 2009” at the Swedish Metal Awards.
In July 2010 MARIONETTE entered Studio Fredman with producer Fredrik Nordström to begin recording the band’s third album Nerve, the first to feature new vocalist Alexander Andersson. The band took a brief break from recording in fall 2010 to perform on a three week headline tour in the U.K. followed by Scandinavian dates with fellow Gothenburgers Dark Tranquillity on the final leg of the “Where Death is Most Alive Part II” Tour. Nerve was mixed by Pontus Hjelm (Dead By April) and mastered by Erik Broheden (Rammstein, Turbonegro) in November 2010 and January 2011 respectively. Upon the completion of Nerve MARIONETTE was already back on the road in Europe as direct support for the Murderdolls. Following the release of Nerve MARIONETTE toured as direct support for Dead By April on “The SlaughTour 2011” and join the Deathstars for a string of shows in Europe in March, MARIONETTE’s continued efforts to challenge and stir up the metal establishment will not go unnoticed.
